Funen, the island in the middle of Denmark, also called Denmark’s kitchen garden

Tour no. 1: In the footsteps of the fairy tale poet H.C. Andersen

The tour goes from Hindsgavl Castle on small roads via Brenderup, Morud and Søndersø to “The Romantic Garden” at Sanderumgaard. Along the way, the Odin Bridge is crossed over the Odense Canal. The bridge is a swing bridge that was inaugurated in 2014.

The garden is from the end of the 18th century and the total area is 15 ha. The lunch you brought is eaten here. The poet H.C. Andersen visited the garden on 2 August 1832. He was not unreservedly enthusiastic. “The garden is beautiful, but it is ridiculous that people have been able to talk so much about it” he wrote to his friends after the visit.

According to H.C. For Andersen, the romantic staging and the artistic swarm of the garden did not measure up to what he actually saw. The picnic basket from Hindsgavl Castle can be enjoyed in the garden. Guided tours of the garden are included. in the trip.

From here the trip goes to the center of Odense, where H.C. Andersen himself (alias actor Torben Iversen) will meet us and and show us around
the city. The trip goes past H.C. Andersen’s birthplace, the childhood home where the father repaired shoes, his school, the stream where the mother washed clothes (the fairy tale: She did not dove) and the Cathedral, where H.C. Andersen was confirmed as a 14-year-old. Along the way, you will meet some of the fairy tale characters.
